About our teepee
Tony Solomon of Mukwa Teepees is a member of the Anishinabe Culture, registered with the Henvey Inlet First Nation shares some information regarding the Indigenous Culture:
Anishinabe or Anishinahbe – the English alphabet cannot accommodate the sounds of our language so all we do is approximate it.
“Tribal” is a European concept that was used to label us but it is very limiting in its connotation and strips us of our dignity and sovereignty as a People. As the vast Culture that we are, being the largest culture in the Western Hemisphere both geographically and in population.
We are not governed by the European top-down centralized government but instead by an advanced and sophisticated philosophy of life which guides people in their decisions without the need for a legal system as found in European cultures.
Beginning with concepts of respecting all things in the Creators’ universe and seeing all things as sovereign. This foundation guides all people in good decision making. For example, children are taught to make decisions with these concepts as the foundation of their decisions. RESPECTING ALL THINGS eliminates the need for such things as the Christian 10 commandments and eliminates the concept of corporal punishment both as adult offenders and as child discipline.
Instead, we had a council of grandmothers who would support the erring person and teach the appropriate behaviour based on the philosophy. Repeat offenders who were not willing to live by the philosophy could face banishment and would not be able to join another community. Our focus was always on support, cooperation, community, kindness and respect, as well as other virtues as opposed to punishment which does nothing but repress the perpetrator and build resentment.

Having been raised in a small community on my family farm, I gained an excellent work ethic and a strong zest for life. My passion was horses, I participated on a competitive level both locally and nationally.
I am a 1993 graduate of the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy and a 2009 graduate of the Canadian College of Osteopathy. I am dedicated to improving the lives of my clients. I truly value my connection with people and treat a wide range of clients from young children to seniors while taking a great effort to identify and treat their specific needs.
Many years ago, I also had the good fortune to experience a Nordic Spa and was HOOKED! My dream was to open one in Oxford County where my husband operates a successful modern automated dairy farm. I took the first step by opening Terra Nova Spa & Café where we are all about relaxation. We support an inclusive non-judgmental environment that offers services to rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit.
Now, my dreams are coming to fruition as we proudly opened our Nordic Spa in December 2022. I am excited to manifest the rest of my vision by creating a distinctive sanctuary, where people can seek various treatments and experience transformation beyond imagination. I invite you to stay tuned as we embark on this journey of growth and progress.
